Changeways Clinical Staff


Dr Randy Paterson Dr Randy Paterson, Clinic Director

Dr Paterson is a psychologist registered in British Columbia. He conducts most of the Changeways training programs for healthcare providers, and is the senior author of each of the Changeways treatment manuals. He has published and presented in the areas of attachment theory, attention, stress, the anxiety disorders, and depression. He is also the author of the popular press books Your Depression Map and The Assertiveness Workbook. Through Changeways Clinic Dr Paterson provides one-to-one evidence based psychotherapy for depression, the anxiety disorders, difficulties adjusting to significant life challenges and changes, and concerns related to sexual orientation. He has provided training in therapeutic technique to providers across Canada and internationally. In 2008 Dr Paterson was named Distinguished Practitioner of the Year by the Canadian Psychological Association.

Dr Martha Capreol, Psychologist

Dr. Capreol is a psychologist registered in British Columbia. She conducts individual cognitive behavioural therapy for anxiety and depression. Additional areas of interest and expertise include helping people manage a wide range of stress related problems such as coping with major life changes, trauma, pain, chronic illness, and everyday problems such as parenting stress. In addition to her work at the Changeways Clinic, Dr. Capreol teaches a third year Health Psychology class at the University of British Columbia. She has also authored a wide variety of mental health promotion literature on behalf of the BC Partners for Mental Health and Addictions Information.

Dr Anne L. Howson

Dr Anne L. Howson, Psychologist

Dr Howson is a psychologist registered in British Columbia. She conducts individual cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) for depression, the anxiety disorders, and psychosis. Additional areas of interest and expertise include the provision of services to lesbian and gay clients, and the integration of motivational enhancement therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy skills training in the treatment of concurrent disorders (addictions and mental health). The use of evidence-based treatment strategies helps clients to become knowledgeable about the factors that contribute to their difficulties and apply the skills necessary to effectively change attitudes, thoughts and behaviours. In addition to Changeways Clinic, Dr Howson is the staff psychologist at the Concurrent Disorders Intervention Unit at UBC Hospital.


Dr Brandy McGee

Dr Brandy McGee, Psychotherapist

Dr McGee received her graduate training in Clinical Psychology from the University of British Columbia and is currently in the process of registering in British Columbia. She conducts individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for depression and the range of anxiety disorders. Additional areas of interest and expertise include eating disorders and addictive behaviors, as well as helping people cope with chronic pain. She has published in the area of perfectionism and eating disorders. In addition to her work at the Changeways Clinic, Dr. McGee provides group treatment in Group Therapy Services at Royal Columbian Hospital.


Dr Sharon Agar

Adrienne Wang, Psychotherapist

Adrienne Wang received her graduate training in Clinical Psychology from the University of New Brunswick and is in the final stage of completing her Doctoral degree. She completed her internship with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority in 2006, with service in the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders, emergency inpatient psychiatry, and complex pain. She has specialized training and expertise in the delivery of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) for mood and the various anxiety disorders, including trichotillomania and health anxiety. She has published in the area of the anxiety disorders, and has provided public educational workshops on mood and the anxiety disorders, and has a special interest in the research and delivery of culturally appropriate CBT. In addition to working at Changeways Clinic, Adrienne Wang is a post-doctoral fellow at the Vancouver General Hospital's Cross Cultural Clinic. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Anxiety Disorders Association of BC (www.anxietybc.com). She is fluent in Mandarin as well as English.


Our role

Changeways Clinic develops and implements evidence-based and user-friendly therapy resources. Our goal is to provide timely and effective psychological services, and to help other mental health providers do the same.

We offer research-informed psychotherapy to the general public, specializing in service for people with mood and anxiety related difficulties, and those adjusting to or contemplating major life transitions. We also offer personal coaching services to those wishing to define and more effectively work toward life goals.

Changeways Clinic provides continuing education workshops for healthcare professionals on the nature and use of evidence-based therapy strategies. We have programs on the treatment of depression and the anxiety disorders, and programs on therapeutic skills useful for various client populations. Our depression treatment protocols are among the most widely used in Canada, and have been exported to China, Australia, Great Britain, and the United States.
