Nena Wang, MA Predoctoral Practicum Student
Nena is a PhD student in the Clinical Psychology program at Simon Fraser University (SFU). Her clinical work is supervised by Dr Nicole Dorfan. Fees for her services are approximately 55% of the regular fee for our registered clinicians.
She obtained her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at SFU (2016) and her Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Psychology from the University of British Columbia (2014).
Nena has completed advanced clinical training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Adult Assessment, and Child and Adolescent Assessment. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings with both adolescent and adult populations, including rotations at the SFU Clinical Psychology Centre, Surrey Memorial Hospital, and the Ministry for Child and Family Development.
At Changeways Clinic, Nena provides evidence-based assessment and therapy for adults experiencing depression and anxiety-related issues, such as worrying, social anxiety, panic, obsessions and/or compulsions, and stress related to daily living or life changes. She is also able to offer gender affirmative care for individuals with gender dysphoria.
Her psychotherapy approach is based in cognitive-behavioural therapy, in conjunction with the flexible use of other therapy styles (e.g., acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy), in order to develop unique treatment approaches with each client. Nena brings genuine warmth, authenticity, and person-oriented care to her practice.
Nena’s research at SFU has focused on the physical and mental health of adults living in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, and identity changes in young adults living with psychosis. The Canadian Institutes of Health Research funded her Master’s research.
