Dr Jennifer MacDonald

Registered Psychologist

My areas of expertise

I value the importance of working collaboratively with individuals as they navigate their way through and within difficult life circumstances. My goal as a psychologist is to foster an environment in which individuals feel empowered to make changes.

I specialize in providing evidence based therapy to individuals experiencing symptoms of anxiety, grief, depression, trauma and adjustment concerns related to challenging life circumstances, losses, injuries and chronic health conditions.

My approach to therapy is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) but is also integrated with some aspects of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness.

My background

I was born and raised on the East Coast of Canada but after completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, I started my journey to the West Coast. I received my Master’s and my PhD in Counselling Psychology at the University of Alberta. I completed my residency in Clinical Psychology in Edmonton.

Following the completion of my PhD, I worked as a Registered Psychologist at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton, providing treatment to individuals in the context of major disease / disorders and injuries. In addition to my clinical position, I served as a supervisor and later as a coordinator in our APA/CPA approved residency program.

I am now a Registered Psychologist in the Province of British Columbia. In addition to my work at Changeways Clinic, I am employed at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre. At GF Strong I support clients in navigating their lives in the context of major medical disorders, lung transplants and other serious injuries. I also enjoy teaching teaching and mentoring early career Psychology trainees.
