Dr Diane Strub

Registered Psychologist

Approach to treatment

I integrate cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with other validated psychological approaches and techniques (e.g., ACT/acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, humanistic, exposure, solution-focused, motivational) to provide each client with the best possible treatment customized for their unique needs.

I believe in building on my clients’ personal strengths and their own expertise about their lives to bring about the changes they wish for. Together, we explore the nature of the challenges at hand, my client’s goals, and the beliefs or behaviours that seem to get in the way. We progressively refine existing skills and develop new ones to shape a more peaceful, meaningful, and rewarding future.

I have successfully assisted clients who experienced difficulties with: Anxiety, specific fears, mood (e.g., sadness, depression, anger), feeling “stuck” or overwhelmed, conflict, communication, loss, trauma, low self-esteem, work, a new stage of life (e.g., university, retirement, career change, moving), starting or stopping certain behaviours, COVID-19-related stress, etc.

Sometimes people may feel a little nervous before starting therapy. I strive to provide a therapeutic environment which is supportive, flexible, open, and non-judgmental. I meet my clients wherever they are in their personal journey, whether they wish to cope with difficult emotions, understand themselves better, or take active steps towards change. I approach my work with curiosity, warmth, compassion, and a healthy sense of humour.

My clinical expertise spans various age groups (i.e., youths, adults, older adults) and I enjoy working with people from all backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, identities and sexual orientations. I offer services in English or en français.

I provide virtual therapy services for clients throughout British Columbia.

My background

I am a registered member of the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (CHCPBC). I obtained my Master’s and Doctorate degrees in clinical psychology at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in British Columbia and completed an additional M.A. and Ph.D. specialization in clinical forensic psychology. I am actively involved in continuing professional education and in some of my research interests in order to offer the most up-to-date services.

My clinical experience includes the provision of assessments and treatment, both in community settings (e.g., rehabilitation, hospital, private clinic) and in forensic contexts (e.g., outpatient clinics, correctional facilities, inpatient units). I really value working collaboratively with colleagues from various health professions, locally and internationally, and supervising senior clinical students or residents.
